Titanic

"The Titanic" is a film that most people remember and enjoy. Perhaps this was due to the fact that the film was based on a true story. And, of course, it was a film with drama, action, adventure, and, of course, romance.

Titanic was dubbed the "Ship of Dreams" and was also dubbed "Unsinkable." On its tragic departure to Cherbourg, France, and then to Queenstown, Ireland to take up extra passengers on April 10th, 1912, the ship was unquestionably regarded as unsinkable by all passengers aboard.

Through this whole epic journey, a poor thriving artist named Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and a 17-year-old rich girl named Rose DeWitt Bukator (Kate Winslet) fall in love, until one tragic night, their enchanted love for one another turned into a desperate struggle for survival on a ship about to plummet to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Rose had found several different ways to get away from her former fiancée Caledon Hockley to be with Jack during the film, but when the Titanic collides with the massive iceberg on April 14th, 1912, and then sinks at 2:20 a.m. on April 15th, 1912, Jack died and Rose survived along with about 700 other members aboard the ship.

Then Rose returned 84 years later to retell the narrative of her life aboard the Titanic to her granddaughter and friends, saying how the first sight of Jack made her fall madly in love, and she then began to detail her fight for survival with them.

With the knowledge that the Titanic was the largest and most luxurious moving object ever built by man's hand, writer and director James Cameron attempted to recreate the true life of this magnificent ship. The Titanic included various amenities that many of its passengers had never experienced in their own homes, such as electric lighting and heat in every room. Even before anyone boarded the Titanic, the grandeur and magnificence of the ship established it as a legend. Of course, it would have been quite difficult for James Cameron to recreate the genuine Titanic, so he had a copy of this spectacular 775-foot beauty created

.

The construction of the spectacular halls, the glorious ballrooms and chandeliers, and the unmistakable contrasts between the numerous classes of society aboard the ship demonstrated that Cameron knew what he was doing while making this film. It was certainly a thrill to see such astounding gems, from the clear features of the ship to the smallest trinket spotted. Cameron made sure that every pore on DiCaprio's face, every rivet of the ship, and every droplet of sea spray was defined and detailed.

Not to mention that the ship's sinking was every bit as spectacular as it would have been to watch it on the big screen. (Armstrong, 2007)Cameron's casting choice was excellent, combining the young DiCaprio with the new skills of Winslet. Though this was Winslet's breakout performance, she was a little rough-edged in several situations, making the 1920's figure of a woman look a little unmanageable. Then, with Leonardo DiCaprio, this was one of his most publicized performances, but I believe he has performed better in other roles after his role in Titanic.

The soundtrack selected for this movie was a true and wonderful piece of work. Every aspect of the film was highlighted and enhanced by this soundtrack. Cameron could not have chosen a greater group of musical talent for his picture, including Céline Dion, Michael Smith, and many others. The soundtrack CD for Titanic was the best-selling primarily orchestral film score in history. (Wikipedia)The Titanic has become a classic film primarily because of its focus on the historic disaster, and this tragedy has now become one of modern-day folktales, but like many folktales, it has been somewhat clouded by the way the disaster has been recounted over the years.

This film will be remembered not just for its memories of the catastrophe, but also for being regarded as one of the Best Films Ever Made. Titanic finally won 87 honors and was nominated for an additional 47 by various award awarding bodies all over the world. I would suggest this film to everybody and hope that it is passed down to future generations.
