Critique Paper About the First Hunger Games Movie

The Hunger Games is a trilogy of young adult dystopian novels written by Suzanne Collins, well known for her work on Nickelodeon's early 1990s show Clarissa Explains It All. The books have a film adaptation, which allows us to envision the book with a few changes.

Panem, a totalitarian nation in a dystopian future, is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year, two young delegates from each district are chosen at random to compete in The Hunger Games. The televised games, which are half entertainment and part terrible retribution for a previous uprising, are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 competitors are forced to eliminate their opponents while the residents of Panem are forced to watch.

Katniss Everdeen wakes up on the day of the reaping, when the tributes are chosen who will take part in the Hunger Games. Her mother and little sister, Prim, sleep nearby. Her father died in a mine explosion years earlier. She goes hunting in the woods outside her district, District 12, with Gale, her best friend. That night, at the reaping ceremony, the district’s female tribute is chosen, and to Katniss’s horror, it’s Prim. Katniss quickly volunteers to take Prim's place. The male tribute is then chosen. It's Peeta Mellark, and Katniss recalls how Peeta handed her bread from his family's bakery years ago when she was looking for food for her family in the waste bins behind the town shops. Katniss believes he saved her that day. Katniss and Peeta bid farewell to their friends and family before boarding a train bound for the Capitol.

When the games began, practically all of the tributes save for her headed to the Cornucopia, following their mentor Haymitch's advise to avoid being murdered during the games. Katniss found an ally in District 11 when the girl assisted her in escaping her foes. Citizens in districts four through twelve despise the Capitol because of the oppression, poverty, and violence they face. When Katniss's new friend Rue from District Eleven is killed during the Games, she infuriates the Capitol by placing flowers on her body. Furthermore, towards the conclusion of the Games, only Peeta and Katniss are left, therefore neither will kill the other. Instead, they agree to eat poisoned berries jointly so that the Capitol has no winner. As a result, rather than humiliating the couple in front of the districts, the Capitol allowed the couple to win together. The other districts viewing the Games have now witnessed one act of revolt, and they are hungry for more. As a result, a second revolution is on its way...

The film depicted a number of difficulties that were similar to or occurred in real-life scenarios. The governing elite, for example, is depicted in broad mockery and vivid colors (The Capitol and Districts 1, 2, and 4). Residents of these locations have a high standard of living. The outlying Districts had to live in a terrible way, working hard for their food, and their resources were exported to the Capitol but they did not benefit from it. Fortunately, District 4 was able to open their eyes to the Capitol's inequity against the other districts.

Another was when Katniss disobeyed the laws of the games and the Capitol in which she and Peeta attempted to consume the poison berries jointly so that no one would win the games. When a ruling authority oppresses its people, one must stand up to it and fight back, especially if it is clearly wrong. Human rights must be upheld at all times and in all places.

Regarding the reaping of names, it's evident that the older ones have a better chance of surviving the games, which I believe is unfair to the younger ones chosen to participate in the games. No one directly considers the fairness of lethal battle between young girls and 18-year-old males, which I find barbaric.

Overall, The Hunger Games is an exciting experience with outstanding and unique aspects and perspectives. Although the film is based on a book, the producers have given themselves a lot of leeway to add their own unique touches. In a world where everyone wants to slash your throat, it is a beautiful and intriguing survival narrative.
