Arcane: League of Legends

Episode 1: "Welcome to the Playground"

An animated series based on the lore of Riot Games' "League of Legends."

Warning: Spoilers Alert

There is a beginning to every legend. Arcane, a new animated series from the creators of League of Legends, follows the origins of two iconic champions and a city on the verge of civil war between the wealthy, utopian city of Piltover and the seedy, oppressed underground city of Zaun. About the current situation, society often conflicts about the rich status, especially on political matters which affect the families' daily lives that could lead to rebellion and distress.

Arcane is a 2021 French-American animated streaming television series. Described as an "event series" set in the League of Legends universe. Set in the past, it retells the origin stories of several characters from Piltover and Zaun. This episode tells about the status of the twin cities, the Piltover and Zaun, and how the status affect both of the cities. Starring with Vi and Powder, at their young age, seeing their parents die at the scene of rallying against Piltover.

The two orphanage sisters got adopted by a survivor of the rally and rebellion and brought them to the Zaun. Five years later, Vi, Powder, and their 2 friends went to Piltover to steal things that are valuable to them. As they were caught by the guards, they ran off and managed to escape. Yet, danger awaits them, some gangsters stop them and try to steal what they stole from Piltover.

The two groups fought yet Powder runs away as she is still so young and does not fight barehanded. She dropped the things they stole and return to Zaun with no single thing brought to sold to strive their living. Vander, who adopted Vi and Powder received news about the thieves who caused the explosion in the Piltover. Vander scolded them including their 2 friends yet he was still happy that all of them returned safely to their home.

In relation to reality, the episode portrays that poor people will eventually steal valuable in order to strive and survive for a living. They will even do their best even it is dangerous and risky. Ironically, even poor people themselves fight each other on what they have when they do not have. Just like episode 1, shows the socio-economic status of reality. This is what they call "survival of the fittest" where people who can fight through and have skills will have the advantage to survive and adapt to situations.

In conclusion, I can say that the poverty strike is difficult to live on with especially when it comes to the well-being of children. Powder and Vi, who came from an orphanage, needed to survive by themselves as they strive along with the deprivation in the slums. It shows the welfare of children being subjected to poverty-stricken areas without parents or even a guardian to look out after them. Life is not unfair and never it was. Just like the two cities, there is the wealthy and there are the oppressed.

In addition, I would highly recommend others to watch the animated series Arcane. As it relates to the situations in reality in the upper and lower status in life. The series is also fun to watch and whether you're a League of Legends fan or not, you're gonna love it! Try it and explore the lore now!
